Curriculum

Zion Baptist Academy utilizes a faith-based early childhood curriculum that lays a foundation for biblically-based living in today’s society. Our curriculum is spiritually dynamic and academically challenging. It is a research-based developmentally appropriate curriculum for infants, preschool, and school age children. Using this framework, our teachers are able to teach in the ways that best match the way in which we know young children develop and learn.

Children learn best by doing, and our curriculum uses a developmentally “hand-on” approach built around weekly or monthly themes. During each week we address all areas of development: social, emotional, physical (large and small motor), cognitive and language development. Lesson plans are prepared weekly and posted in each classroom. There is a balance between teacher directed and child-initiated activities. Our classrooms are set up in a learning center configuration, which allows each child to choose his/her activities in the different classroom areas. The activities in each learning center are planned by the teachers to facilitate discovery and learning. Our daily schedule includes large group, small group, and individual activities as well as learning center times. The children are guided and encouraged to learn new self-help skills, think for themselves, make choices, experiment, explore, make mistakes, and have a lot of fun in the process.

Our outstanding faculty and staff are selected for their personal faith, Christian character, academic background, and commitment to impacting the lives of students. Zion Baptist Academy teachers lovingly encourage students to discover the joy of knowing Jesus Christ personally, nurturing the seeds of faith as they disciple young hearts. God’s Word is woven throughout the fabric of the student’s day. Students discover that Scripture relates to every area of their lives – their personal relationships, their character, how they work and play, how they think and speak, even the subjects they study. God’s design unfolds whether students are examining the order of the universe, studying the nations of our world, tracing the Christian heritage of our country, or learning to use the gift of language. It is a curriculum and environment that enables us to work in concert with parents to fulfill the calling that we share to “train-up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old, he will not depart from it.” Proverbs 22:6.

Parent's Role

We are glad you have chosen/or are considering Zion Baptist Academy. We understand the importance of your decision to entrust us with the care and education of your child. Zion Baptist Academy is owned and operated by Zion Baptist Church of Marietta, GA. Our early childhood learning center integrates academic excellence with Christian principles, in a safe, secure, fun, loving, and nurturing environment. We strive to make children and parents feel welcome and secure.

The relationship between parents and Academy staff is vital to the success of a child’s experience. A partnership must be formed the first day, with open communication and understanding that the development and growth of the child is our top priority.

Parents can assist and help ensure a smooth transition by doing the following:

Discipline

At Zion Baptist Academy we use the principle of Christian love and respect, and the method of “redirection” to guide your child toward appropriate behavior. If a child is engaged in behavior not conducive to a safe and happy learning environment, the teacher will “redirect” the child toward appropriate behavior. The use of physical punishment or harsh language is prohibited.

Parents or guardians are required to abide by the Zion Baptist Academy Discipline Policy any time they are on Academy property.

Activities and Dismissal

By enrolling your child at Zion Baptist Academy, you as a parent or guardian give permission for your child to be involved in activities and events at our school.

The staff will work with each child to fulfill the needs of that child, and every effort will be made to provide a positive learning experience. Special needs will be accommodated when possible.

Zion Baptist Academy reserves the right to ask parents to make alternative arrangements for care if it is determined that a child’s needs cannot be met, or the child has not adjusted to the group care provided by the Academy. In the event the behavior become disruptive to the program or becomes a problem that poses an unsafe situation for the child or other children in the class, alternative arrangements will be required.

If you, as a parent, are uncooperative in completing and returning forms, fail to pay your tuition on time, fail to follow any state or county regulations, or fail to follow any Zion Baptist Academy Policy or Procedure, it may be necessary to dismiss your child from the Academy.

Payment Policy

Tuition is due on the Friday prior to the week of service. Although tuition is due weekly, monthly payments in advance are accepted and encouraged. Tuition and fees are to be paid in full without deduction for absences of any duration or for any cause, and without substitution of other days of attendance as “make up” days. Please understand that this is because staffing and other operational costs are incurred on the basis of fixed levels of enrollment, and because few of these costs are eliminated when a child is temporarily absent.

Severe Weather, Fire or Emergency Situations

If an emergency situation develops such as severe weather, fire, physical damage to the building, or any other situation that poses a threat, the safety of the children is our first concern.

The Academy is equipped with a weather band radio, a fire alarm sprinkler system and fire extinguishers. Fire and severe weather drills are conducted according to state and county regulations or every 30 days.

If there is an emergency situation and it becomes necessary to close the Academy, parents will be notified to make arrangements for early pickup.

In the event of unusual weather conditions such as snow or ice, listen to WSB AM 750 radios, check the WSB web site at www.wsbradio.com, and watch CBS, ABC, or NBS TV stations. Note: we will not always follow the Cobb County school system for now holidays. Generally, we will try to open late if possible rather than close for the day to give road crews time to clear the roads.

If an emergency situation develops and it is determined that the building or premises are unsafe, your child will be transported to a safe location. Parents will be notified of the situation and will be required to pick up your child as soon as possible.

Alcohol, Drugs, and Tobacco

In our effort to provide a safe, healthy environment for each child to grow and develop, we maintain a center free of alcohol, drugs, and tobacco use.

The use of alcohol, drugs, and tobacco is prohibited in the building or anywhere on the grounds by Academy staff, parents, or anyone visiting the Academy.

The use or presence of alcohol, drugs, and tobacco is prohibited during any outing or field trip, as well as on any vehicle used by the Academy to transport your child.
